Adnana Menderes Airport

The airport of Izmir Adnan is a small airport serving all the surrounding region in Turkey. It is called after former Turkish prime minister Adnana Menderes, who was born in Izmir in 1920. It was founded by the government of Turkey and has become quite famous among travelers, both local and abroad.

In 1960, Adnana Menderes had been appointed by then president of Turkey Tansu Ciller as a top minister in the Cabinet. It was during his tenure in office that he was given his new post as prime minister of Turkey. He was also given the responsibility to develop an airport in Istanbul which was later named by him the Menderes International Airport. In order to develop the airport, he employed the services of several foreign companies and made a deal with them. Adnana Menderes was able to convince these companies to provide him with services which were much more than what they could provide to a city such as Izmir. His personal power and popularity in the country led to the development of this airport, which allowed him to extend his influence across the globe.
